The 15th Indie Memphis Film Festival has some heavy hitters behind it in 2012.
In addition to showcasing films from up and coming filmmakers, the festival will feature representatives from FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ: MSFT), Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital discussing different topics including digital storytelling and a demonstration of Microsoft’s Windows 8 product.
FedEx CIO Rob Carter will be part of a panel discussion along with Abigail Posner, Google’s head of strategic planning, and other technology industry experts.
Memphis startup nonprofit LaunchMemphis will also hold a 48-Hour Hack event where developers and local technology pros will develop web applications, video games and tools over the weekend.
Iddo Patt, president of the board of Indie Memphis, said incorporating different companies into the event has been a long term goal that is coming to fruition.
“With the help of FedEx, Microsoft and LaunchYourCity, we’ve been able to put together a concentrated program that would be the envy of any media and technology conference and will be a springboard to engaging the entire community in the creativity and innovation that are part of the soul of Memphis,” Patt said in a statement.
According to Indie Memphis, last year’s event attracted more than 8,000 attendees.
The Indie Memphis Festival will be held Nov. 1-4 with events being held at Playhouse on the Square, Studio on the Square and Circuit Playhouse. The schedule of events and ticket information can be found at www.indiememphis.com.
