Contemporary Arts Memphis opens space for young artists

On Thursday, Oct. 24, Contemporary Arts Memphis held an open house and ribbon cutting for its new headquarters at 652 Marshall Ave. in the Edge District.

Founded by celebrated Memphis native Derek Fordjour, the organization annually hosts a free four-week summer camp for area 11th- and 12th- grade students with an interest in visual art. That camp includes three weeks of a sleepaway-style camp at St. Columba Retreat Center in Bartlett and a week in New York City touring galleries and meeting artists. Students receive college-level dual enrollment instruction from the University of Memphis.
