We firmly believe that every child in the city of Memphis deserves access to a high-quality education.
Our unwavering commitment to student success and achievement drives our efforts and investments. We are dedicated to working collaboratively with our grantee partners who share our passion for creating a better Memphis through education. Our partners include Memphis Shelby County Schools, public charter schools and networks, literacy-focused organizations, talent partners, advocacy organizations, and others.
Closing the achievement gap – the disparity in academic performance between groups of students – is a critical focus of our work. We believe that all students, regardless of their race, gender, family income level, zip code, or other circumstances, can achieve at a high level. That’s why we support initiatives that address the systemic barriers hindering student success. By improving the quality of instruction and overall school culture, we aim to provide students with the support, tools, and knowledge they need to thrive.
One of our key areas of emphasis is mastering early literacy skills. We recognize that literacy is the cornerstone of a child’s educational journey. Through our partners’ initiatives, we help children develop strong reading skills from an early age. We are also leaning into improving attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism. The reasons students miss school are varied and can be complex. However, we understand the impact strong attendance can have on student achievement and the barriers created when students miss too many days of school.
At the Hyde Family Foundation, we recognize that a holistic approach to education goes beyond financial support. By working together with educators, administrators, and community stakeholders, we hope to create a thriving ecosystem that supports student achievement and teacher well-being.
